Scenes from the weekend {beginning of fall edition}

It was a stay-at-home kind of weekend. With the exception of some Saturday morning grocery shopping, and a walk around the lake, we stuck close to home. I cooked and cleaned, caught up on laundry, watched movies with the boys. Alan power washed the front path and worked on the woodshed roof and finishing the deck. We ate waffles and drank tea and constructed Lego masterpieces. I wrote letters and read books and made big bowls of popcorn. There were glimpses of sun and periods of torrential rain and the air had a distinct chill in it. Fall has definitely arrived.

Scenes from the weekend

School is great. Exhausting but great. We made it through the first week, and enjoyed a busy, fun-filled, and productive weekend. A weekend of candy floss clouds, hot dog roasts in the woods, walks along the river, visiting with favourite relatives from far away, dahlias and Darth Vader and laundry and planning meals for the next few weeks. And now... it's Monday again. Oof.

More soon!

Scenes from the weekend

Words I would use to describe this weekend? Busy. Productive. Organized. Chaotic. Relaxing. Fun. Cuddly. Wet {looks like our early summer is no longer... hmph}. Oh, and chocolate. There was quite a lot of chocolate.

What are you up to this Monday morning? I'm looking forward to catching up with friends over the lunch hour, growing butterflies with my first graders, a big pot of veggie soup for supper, some letter-writing while the boys are at Beavers, and the return of Canadian astronaut Cmdr. Chris Hadfield to Earth {from the International Space Station back home in just three hours}.That man is seriously inspiring. After following his space journey, and singing along with 500 kids and him on Music Monday, I might even want to be an astronaut when I grow up :)

Happy Monday, mes amies.

Scenes from the weekend

Hey, you guys. I'm back. But I really don't know where to begin. I'm not sure what to say about the past few exhausting, emotional, challenging, heartbreaking months. And to be honest, I don't know when I'll be ready to talk about it. So for now, I'm just going to show you some photos from our Easter weekend, okay?

More tomorrow, maybe. In the meantime, won't you please tell me what you've been up to the past few months? I've missed you, and I'm so looking forward to connecting with all my friends in the blogging world again.

Scenes from the weekend

This weekend was full of all sorts of good things: family movie night, a dusting of snow, bright blue sky, breakfast out, a pile of birthday presents and a tasty chocolate cake, a good workout, roast chicken and a crock pot full of soup, catching up on Fringe, an afternoon at my sister's house, and finally...a long, relaxing bubble bath on Sunday night, followed by the newest episode of Downton Abbey. As far as weekends go, it was pretty much perfect. I think I'm ready for Monday now.

Scenes from the weekend

Is it just me or are weekends way too short? Ours was full from start to finish, and now I feel like I could use a couple of days off to recover from my days off! This weekend I went for our annual and absolutely lovely-as-always tea with my mom and sister at my mom's best friend's house {did you get all that?}, and I wrapped a big pile of presents while drinking my thé du Noël {merci, Em!} and grooving to Christmas carols on Grooveshark. To add to the festive feeling in the air, we also did some more decorating and Christmas shopping,  went to a holiday open house at my brother's place, rode the Christmas trolley around downtown, paid a visit to Father Christmas at the museum aaaaand went to the Langford light-up fire truck parade in the pouring rain {with my dad, who looks more and more like Santa with each passing day}. It's no wonder I'm exhausted. Good thing it's the last week of school, and in five short days I'll be on vacation!

How was your weekend? Were you busy making merry, too?

Scenes from the weekend

Our weekend was jam-packed. Here's how it looked. I'd write more, but I should've been in bed ages ago...

 Our Saturday morning destination was the Christmas tree farm!

 It was muddy and cold and we did not have as much fun as I'd hoped, but we did find a nice tree. Dylan helped Alan saw it down.

 Saturday afternoon Christmas shopping {at Purdy's Chocolates}

 Taking a break

 Sunday tree-decorating. Ice cream floats are tradition in my family, so I just had to... {it's root beer! not really Guinness!}

 Work in progress. Lights are mostly on.

 The first few ornaments to go on. "Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings."

 Vintage loveliness on my mantlepiece.

The boys have their own Christmas village in the playroom. This building is new and they love it. They love the fake, sparkly snow, too.

I didn't take any photos at my staff party, nor at Alan's one. Too bad, because they were both fantastically fun. and I was looking pretty cute at both :) Oh well. The Christmas season is just beginning. There are bound to be more parties, right?

Happy Monday, mes amies. Hope it's a good one.

Scenes from the weekend

Too tired to type. I was up until 1:30 last night, working like a madwoman to finish  my report cards. I just couldn't have the bloody things looming over me any longer. Anyway, I did it. They're done and I am now beyond exhausted {you try teaching first grade on 4 1/2 hours sleep!} I'm climbing into bed tonight at 9:30 p.m. Just quickly logging on to post a few photos of our festive weekend. It included a trip downtown to see the Santa Claus Parade {don't. even. get me started on the traffic and lack of parking down there}, shopping for and putting up Christmas lights, making some fun purchases at a craft fair and drinking many a peppermint mocha {in between long stretches in front of the computer, of course}. What did you get up to?

Happy Monday, lovies. Hope it was a good one.
