"Life is like a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving." - Albert Einstein

Alan and the boys got me the most perfect present for my birthday. A present that I didn't even know I wanted until I found it outside the front door last Friday morning. A bike!

Isn't she a beauty? I love the  colour, the paisley pattern on the seat, the basket {hello, totally going to ride to the bakery for a baguette now}, and the feeling of freedom from life's worries when I start to ride and breathe in the fresh air. I've decided to call her Betsy. She just looks like a Betsy, doesn't she? I'm pretty sure I'm going to need a bell like the one below. Isn't it perfect to go with the vintage look of the bike?

I haven't had a bike since I was a kid, so I'm pretty excited to have one now. I'd forgotten how good it feels to fly down the street, cherry blossoms swirling through the air as I go. And these days I can really use the distraction and the feel-good endorphins. Things have been lousy for way too long. It's time to feel like a kid again.

Do you have a bike? Where do you like to ride it?

  1. Wow what a beauty! I hope you get plenty of chance to be that kid again. Sounds like a great idea to me.

  2. I got a bike, but the tire has been flat for over a year. Just a few weeks ago I told my husband that for my birthday I thought I would tell his dad that I wished for new tires, preferably put on... his dad is the best when it comes to bicycle repairs.

  3. Ups... posted a bit early. What I wanted to write was: reading this post really makes me want to ride the bike in the fresh spring air... but so far spring doesn't seem to have come to Denmark.

  4. The more I look at your new bike, the more it reminds me of my first bike. It was a metallic yellow with a banana seat, arched handle bars and metal covers over the wheels. I'll never forget that bike. Good times! I haven't been on a bike since, gosh, I don't know when. My balance isn't as good as it used to be and, to be honest. I'm a bit worried I'd fall and break something. I'm sure I'll try again one day.

That bell is going to look just perfect on your bike. Enjoy your sweet ride!

  5. most perfect gift ever! how cute you must look on Betsy! (and please please PLEASE get that bike bell!)

that sweet basket-- as soon as I saw it, I thought of the flowers and books that you are sure to put there. Ooh and a letter or two for the post office! It is so perfectly you.

I need a bike. Chip said he thought I would enjoy one when Felix is a little older to ride with me on a baby seat. How cute would that be? When we go strolling in the park, sometimes we see people on their bicycles. This one kind man passed us and dinged his bell as he smiled past and it made me happy. A kind stranger. Yes, you must get that bike bell immediately!

PS. I once said that your blog felt like a second home. How very true that is years later. It's good to have you blogging again.

  6. What a perfect gift! I've had a bike of some kind through every stage of my life and it almost always puts me in a good mood. I'm itching to get ours out once the weather finally warms up. Hoping yours brings a healing dose of happiness your way, Erin.

    1. It really does feel good to ride a bike, doesn't it? A dose of happiness is much needed, so I'm going to keep on riding until I'm feeling fabulous again, Alli. Thanks. xo
