Not long until New York!

My sister sent me a text tonight that read "10 weeks to NYC!" I checked, and she's right. 10 weeks tomorrow morning, we'll be boarding the flight to New York. How exciting is that?

It's time to start planning! So far we know that we definitely want to: see a Broadway show, check out the view from the top of the Empire State Building, have breakfast outside Tiffany's {oh, the photo opps!}, visit Times Square, take a stroll through Central Park, and eat a lot of bagels...

Of course there are so many more amazing things to see and do in the city that never sleeps, but I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the options. We've got 5 nights and 4 1/2 days to fill, and we want to make the most of every single second. So, have you been to New York? And if you have, tell me please... what are the things that we simply must do?

  1. I have to say one of my favourite things was walking the High Line, such a unique view of the city. Also we had alot of fun at the Natural History Museum. Oh and we went to Brooklyn and had Grimaldi's pizza (AMAZING) than walked back across the bridge, that was also really good! I think the thing for us was realising you cant do everything and just making the most of what you can do :-)

  4. How fun! I've never been to NYC but Noah is there right NOW. In fact, he may be at a broadway show tonight. He went to the Met, Broadway, a coffee shop near Central Park, and the Statue of Liberty. The only things I would really NEED to do are see a broadway show and see times square. Glad you're excited and that you have a fun trip to look forward to!

  5. I hope those ten weeks whizz by... {Because really, what's wrong with wishing that January & February will just hurry up & lead us towards springtime? Nothing, that's what!}

    As you know, I lived in NY state for a year when I was in Grade 3. But I don't remember a lot. And I think {well, I hope!} that my travel tastes have evolved since then...

    Luckily I spent a week or so in NYC chez FQ's brother back in March 2008. We had a great time. There is so so so so much to do in the city that I think it's a great idea to have a "to do" list, but please don't be disappointed when you don't get through the entire list. After about two days, I crumpled up my list & tucked it into my back pocket because I realized that I'd never be able to check everything off & I should just enjoy the things I did end up doing & living in the moments as they happened.

    So, Times Square & a Broadway show? Of course.

    Central Park? Definitely. Make sure you check out the Strawberry Fields {John Lennon} memorial in the park & that you go ice-skating at Wollman Rink, which is open till early April! You can check out all the details on the park @ http://www.centralpark.com/

    I have to agree 100% with Megan. You must walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. How can you not? Just make sure that you charge up your camera battery before then, because the views from the bridge are pretty darn incredible & so so so so so NYC.

    Speaking of views, I would not go up to the top of the Empire State building. You know why? You'll be up there & have a fabulous view of the city... minus its most famous building. Pffffft. We went up to the observation deck at the top of Rockerfeller Centre & it was modern, very well-organized, spacious & secure. I loved the view & being able to watch the sunset behind the Empire State Building which was just across from us. It was beyond amazing. http://www.topoftherocknyc.com/

    OK, now I'm just as excited about your trip as you are. Hmm... shall I start looking at Geneva --->Big Apple flights perhaps??? {Hey, I'm only partly joking...} XOXOXO!!!

  6. Well, one thing you simply MUST do is make a wee bit of time to see me! And walk the High Line and visit Chelsea Market (there's a great restaurant there called Green Table). And a million other things, but ME most importantly. ;)
