Scenes from the weekend

It was another wonderfully hot and sunny weekend, the last one in August. Can you believe it? I spent Friday night at Starbucks with my teaching partner, attempting to wrap our heads around the new school year and our plans for our little class of kindies. I consumed several lattés, and we accomplished quite a lot. Saturday was all about the food...

 I baked whole-wheat applesauce muffins for breakfast.

 We went blackberry picking along the old railway tracks and filled our bags {we didn't have enough buckets} several times over.

I hung the laundry out to dry in the hot sun.

 Sawyer and I made pizza from scratch. We even mixed herbs from the garden into the dough. Sooo good. There's a bit of ham on there for the boys, but mine was all veggie...

 Our current bedtime story. I love it. They love it. But, how on earth will I ever get through the final few chapters without sobbing uncontrollably? {if you've read it~ and please tell me you have!~ then you know what I'm talking about}

 Sunday morning, Alan and Sawyer went for a bike ride, just the two of them. Sawyer was "so 'cited!"

 Afterwards we all met up for a splash in Langford Lake. I had no idea there was such a great little beach so close to our house. It is literally five minutes away.

 The boys loved it.

They loved it so much in fact, that after our picnic lunch we headed home for a rest, and then went back to the lake {armed with cold drinks, popsicles and a lot more beach toys} for the rest of the afternoon. And I think we'll go back tomorrow, too.

Evening reading in my office. Sigh. I love it in here...

There's now one week left of summer vacation. In that week I intend to: spend more time on the beach, pick more blackberries {they are abundant, delicious and free!}, help Dylan to label all of his school supplies {ten glue sticks! ten! is it just me or is that completely insane?}, get my hair cut, get the boys' hair cut, finish decorating my classroom, do a big clean-out of the boys' bedroom and closet {they have pretty much grown out of everything this summer}, finish getting everything ready for preschool {ugh, let the meetings begin...}, and treat myself to a cute new back-to-school outfit, because hey, I'm worth it! Oh, and somewhere in there, I'd really like to find some time to just sit in the sunshine and relax. These long, hot days are fading quickly, and before we know it, autumn will be here and in full swing. I love the fall, but I don't want to look back and regret that I missed the last lovely days of summer stuck indoors.

What have you got planned for the week ahead? I'd love to hear...

  11. You and your boys. I love it. I can't wait until my Chad and I are strolling along with our sons running behind us. too sweet, erin.

    I also can't wait to read Charlotte's Web to my children. That is my favorite children's book ever. Even as an adult, you still enjoy it.

    And, coincidentally, I am reading The Poisionwood Bible too! And I love it. How far are you? I'm nearing the end (little over 15 pages left) and I loved it completely. I couldn't believe how much it made me think...
