Having spent so much time in London, I feel a certain affection for the Royal Family. And because I am a hopeless romantic, I simply had to watch, and celebrate the Royal Wedding! As you may recall, I had big plans for April 29th... I actually managed to get up at 1 o'clock on Friday morning. I stayed in my pajamas, but I did put on a bit of makeup and my sparkly tiara and I was out the door before half past! I picked up Shannon at 1:45, and we were at the Empress for 2 o'clock with several hundred other people. Crazy!!! But so much fun.
Look who we ran into in the lobby of the hotel!
Fancy hotel = fancy breakfast
The beautiful Tea Lobby
One requires large quantities of tea at the ungodly hour of 2 a.m.
There were big screens throughout the Tea Lobby, so we could watch the entire wedding unobstructed. Shannon and I were so excited when Kate arrived at Prince William's side!
Sleepy, but happy
We thought about buying something nice at the hotel jeweller's...
Ran into my friend Melana in the Empress Dining Room
I hung out there for a bit, with the Queen {I mean check out that crown! it's got to be the queen, right?}
Back to the Tea Lobby... my favourite place in the hotel... it's so elegant, even when everyone's in pajamas!
There was so much delicious food. I enjoyed a lot of it, but decided to forgo the baked beans, fried bread and kippers!
I nibbled pastries and preserves instead. Mmm!
We were thrilled when they came out onto the balcony to kiss and wave at the crowd! I took a million photos. I loved the entire thing. The music, the trees in the Abbey, Kate's dress, their vows and prayers, the readings, the music, the carriage! Le sigh...
Canada Post was selling the first issues of the William and Kate postage stamps. Of course I had to buy several packs! They also had the official Royal Wedding Day postmark, so I bought a postcard for Em right away and had them stamp it. Here I am, mailing it off to her from the fancy hotel mailbox.
The sun comes up on the Empress, as Shannon and I head home. We had a wonderful, girly time and I'm so glad we went! It was a great way to celebrate our birthdays together in style...
I did other stuff this weekend too. Stay tuned for those photos on Monday. And now, I'm off to bed. Two days later, I'm still tired after my crazy late night/early morning of Royal Wedding watching! Did you see it? What did you think?
Cute Cute Cute! I'm so tired too from it all! Weren't you happy that they did a 2nd kiss! I sure was! :D

This looks like SUCH a fun night/morning ;) I didn't really care about the royal wedding because I was so jet-lagged from my honeymoon in Thailand - but I did turn the TV on to see Kate's beautiful dress ! (and I didn't have to wake up too early since I live in Paris) :)
ReplyDeleteBisous !
I only tuned in to see the dress, and it was amazing. I wasn't really into the whole royal wedding, but I must say seeing your pictures, it looks like such a fun way to spent the night/day, you will always remember where you were at the day of their wedding:)
ReplyDeleteSo great - I love it! I couldn't get up to watch it - but get this - you will laugh so hard - went to dinner at the Legion in the "Grove" and guess what was on the big screen - Yep the ROYAL Wedding - so I did get to see some of it! Yippy! Have a wonderful week Love and Hugs K
ReplyDeleteI really can't believe you got up that early to watch the Royal Wedding. But it looks like you really did it in the right way! All that delicious food and the setting looks just great.
ReplyDeleteAww, this looks like so much fun! I bet it was worth the early wake up. The royal wedding was definitely worth all the fuss! The whole thing was so very lovely.
ReplyDeleteyou are way too fun! for some reason i thought you were doing this at your house, but to go to an event put on by the hotel... how fancy! i'm glad you got to go do something like this. what a great memory. i saw a bit of it because i haven't been sleeping much at night. i suddenly saw a bunch of people tweeting about hats so i popped over to a live stream and checked it out. i was immediately grateful for my tiny 50 person backyard wedding. :) it wouldn't really matter if i tripped and fell on my face at my wedding. kate on the other hand... oh the pressure!
ReplyDeletehow fabulous!! I had Champagne out of a paper cup at my mums x:)
ReplyDeleteEeek! I love it! How wonderful! I woke up at 3 am for it and watched it in bed. I bawled my eyes out as she was driving to the church and then when she got out of the car...tears! She looked so beautiful and seemed so gracious. Waving and smiling to everyone. It was my favourite moment.
ReplyDeletei'm not so into the royals, but this looks like so much fun! pjs and tea? next royal wedding, i'm in!
