Resolution 9/52

The meal-planning went well last week. I made a few changes to the menu as the week went on, but mostly I stuck to the plan and made sure we had lots of good, healthy stuff. I made a delicious salad for lunch today- baby spinach, strawberries, Granny Smith apples, almonds and a sprinkling of feta cheese. Yum! I'm definitely having that again soon! Tomorrow morning I'll plan out the week to come and head off to the grocery store for my ingredients {didn't do it today, too busy enjoying a lazy day at home with the boys, cuddling and constructing a Playmobil airplane!}

As for this week's resolution, I'm pretty excited about it. I read on my friend Kim's blog a few weeks ago about a really cool project, the 29-Day Giving Challenge. And starting this week, I'm going to give it a go.

The idea is pretty simple. Each day you give something away. It can be a material thing, or a kind word, a hug, some help in someone's time of need. And in return? You get a good feeling inside, and the knowledge that maybe you made someone's day a bit better, maybe you helped to make the world a better place. I started today, by giving three big bags of clothes and household stuff to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation. Tomorrow I'm going to look after my sister's little guy for the day, so that she can switch her days at work and spend Wednesday with her older son on his birthday {Dylan and Thomas were born exactly one week apart! How cool is that?} As for Tuesday? Don't know yet. But I'm sure I'll come up with something. This is going to be fun!

If you've got any great ideas, stories about things you've done or heard of others doing, please share. I'd love to hear them.

  1. VERY COOL indeed! and what a great way to kick off the compassion. i'm in love with the idea.

    congrats on the meal planning! i know i dont have kids yet but seriously, i need to think of doing this because every time i go to the grocery store, i spend WAY too much not knowing what i'm getting for what dinner etc. and then things go bad etc.

    UGH! so i need to do a little Pugh planning for sure.

    thanks for the inspiration so early this a.m.! :)

  2. I hate that I have to wait to start a project like the 29 Days of giving, but I just need to be a little selfish and finish finals first. And I'm getting there. I've another paper to write today though so I better get going!! Happy Monday, Erin!

  4. yay! i'm so happy you're giving this a go. it's one of the best projects i've done and it really helped changed my outlook on life and the world {even though it was really hard to stick with sometimes}. i hope you get to have an amazing experience as well. and what a great example you're setting for your boys!

  5. Good for you! I saw Kim's post about this a little while back. I'd love to give it a try but I'm afraid I'd have a hard time sticking to it - maybe I'll try in summer when I'll more time to make a conscious effort. I'd love to hear more about what you do with this project!

  7. I love this concept. I make it a point once a month to give my time to a local non-profit via volunteer work.
