Scenes from the weekend

It's Sunday night and I just have to tell you about the fabulous weekend we've had. It was the perfect blend of relaxation, getting things done, and just having fun!

It started out Friday night with the Family Dance at our school. The boys were in their element, adorable little dancing fools. They rocked all their "fancy dance moves"...

They brought their light-up wands from the Peppa Pig show in London, and every kid in the gym wanted one {unfortunately I had to use a flash to take photos, as the gym was really dark with twinkle lights, so you can't tell how awesome the wands are, like spinning glow sticks!}

Sawyer was loving the congo line!

Saturday was lovely. It started out with homemade waffles for breakfast {yum!} and lots of lounging around. After lunch, I wrote a stack of letters, Alan worked in the garden, the boys had a little nap.

 And then Dylan and Daddy worked on their model solar system. Dylan was in his glory, and so proud of how Saturn turned out! Meanwhile, Sawyer and I put all the Christmas lights away in the crawl space, and tidied up the playroom. After that, we headed out to get groceries and then treated ourselves to souvlaki and falafel at a little Greek place. Mmmm...

I snapped a photo of Sawyer's sidewalk chalk drawing when we got home. Isn't it cute? I hope the rain doesn't wash it away any time soon.

Sunday morning was another nice one. The boys ate breakfast while I soaked in the tub, we watched some Magic School Bus, and then I decided we needed to get out of the house and head downtown. Alan had work to do, so it was just the kids and me.

 We have an annual pass so were headed for the museum. I stopped to take a photo of the  boys with the totem pole outside the Parliament Buildings when a lovely old man offered to take a photo of all three of us. We Victorians are very kind to our tourists {I didn't tell him we actually live here... I think he heard Dylan's English accent and assumed we were from out-of-town!}

The museum was great fun. We panned for gold, examined all sorts of skulls and fossils and replica animal poo {seriously their favourite thing in the whole place! boys... sigh...}, toured the old-fashioned town...

 and practiced our sea shanties as we climbed off the sailing ship that brought us from the old country to the "new world".

We spent several hours wandering through every exhibit and having a lovely time. Then we headed out into the chilly January afternoon.

 We checked out the cool new Emily Carr statue outside the Empress.

 And the boys took turns riding on Emily's dog. Of course they did.

 Then we took a walk past my favourite hotel {I always wave at the room we stayed in after our wedding}

 ... and headed up to Rogers' Chocolates and Soda Shoppe for a massive sundae. Oh my, it was good!

 After that we headed down to the causeway for a walk and a look at the boats in the harbour.

 The boys love all the steps around the Inner Harbour, and were climbing up and down, up and down, as we made our way back towards the van.

Isn't it pretty? Even on a grey day like today...

We finished off the afternoon with a visit at my mom & dad's, where I drank tea and the boys played a rowdy game of Pop-o-matic Trouble with Gramma. It was great. Then we headed home, made fajitas {everyone had a job to do, and we enjoyed dinner all the more for it}, and soon after that it was bedtime.

Now Alan and I are about to watch the season 3 premiere of Being Human! It has been a lovely, lovely weekend. And I still have a day off to get the laundry done {and all that other fun stuff I'm always doing}, so all's well that ends well.

How was your weekend? What did you get up to?

  1. Hi Erin,
    It sounds like you had a blissful weekend. Thanks for sending me your wonderful baby chocolate lava cakes recipe (through the Winter Recipe Exchange). I had such a great time making it today, and thought I'd share with you a bit of my experience in the link below. If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to share your recipe. Would it be alright if I added it to my post (of course, crediting you)?

  2. That sounds so perfect! I can't decide what appeals to me the most: the dance, museum, waffles, downtown, ICE CREAM. I love seeing your memories recorded here because they show just how much you love your family. I hope one day I'll find as many ways to keep future-kids happy while making wonderful family memories!

    ps - Dylan has an English accent? I didn't know that!

  3. Your boys are just the cutest -- especially in those bright colors! Your weekend sounds like so much fun. I haven't done some of those things in years and I really should again. Maybe I can borrow someone's kids. I spend part of the weekend in Salt Lake City -- Alt was fantastic and I have so many ideas. I almost wish I didn't have school today! Happy Monday, Erin!!

  5. Sounds like the most perfect weekend and cannot believe you crammed so much in either!

    Love the picture of Dylan in the museum with his backpack - so reminiscent of England pictures and the photo of Sawyer with the ice-cream, he has that look which says "Mum can we not just eat it already!"

    xx
