The birthday boy

It was Alan's birthday today! Around here that means...

Getting up early to wear birthday hats and open piles of presents!

Helpers to open your gifts for you, should you have too much difficulty doing it yourself ;~)

 Lego!

Not just any Lego either... Star Wars Lego!

Homemade cards. Dylan's drawn a pile of presents waiting for Daddy on the couch... and a big old chocolate cake on the table. Art imitates life. Or is it the other way around?!

And of course, it wouldn't be a birthday without cake. This year I made an ice cream cake, for the first time ever! I think it turned out rather well, don't you? {it's hard to tell, but the word DAD is written on there in Smarties... see?} He made a wish, and we all blew out the candles. Great fun.

It's a few hours later now and I'm tired. I think I'm getting a cold. I've got a sore, itchy throat and a headache behind my eyes {I blame the 30 minutes I spent outside this morning shovelling heaps of heavy, wet snow in order to get out of our driveway!} Ugh. Didn't make for a very cheerful me playing hostess tonight.. which I'm really regretting now. Sigh. Sorry, Mom and Dad! I was very happy to have you over, honest I was! The boys were having a fantastic time, that's for sure! And the birthday boy has just been saying what a nice day it was and what a delicious cake I made. So, all's well that ends well. Now, if I can just shake off this cold...

I'm off to bed now, with my hot water bottle and my journal. I'll write a quick 3BT and then I'm going to sleep. Must stick to those resolutions!

Good-night, my lovelies.

  5. Happy Birthday to your wonderful husband, Erin! I wish I could see more of the cake -- I've always wanted to make an ice cream cake. And feel better! Hopefully, getting to bed earlier rather than later helped.
