Big and little plans for 2011

So last night I wrote that I had some goals I wanted to tell you about today, and I hinted that there might be a lot of them. Well, there really are a lot of them. I'm thinking a goal a week. Which means 52 resolutions! {Mara of M Loves M came up with the idea, and I love it!}

I think too often I make resolutions that are difficult to achieve, or that are too vague to really know how to go about accomplishing, and I end up abandoning them a few weeks into January. And so this year, I'm going to choose something to work on each week. Little things that I hope will add up to a big difference in the way I think and feel. I tend to be a bit of a pessimist, and I worry way too much about pretty much everything. I also waste a lot of time comparing myself and my situation with others, which is obviously not conducive to healthy self-esteem or an all-around positive attitude. I'd like to be a happier, more confident version of myself. Which is why the first book I'm going to purchase in 2011 is this one.

I've heard great things about The Happiness Project, and I hope it will be full of good ideas. Things I can do to make the world a better place, and me a better person. I've got a list of my own, and I'm going to add to it as the weeks go by and as I read the book. Hopefully at the end of the year, when I look back, I'll be able to say, "Look what I did! Look at all the success I had!"

And so, a goal a week. I'll keep accountable by writing about one each Sunday {except this week, since it's Tuesday already!} I read your comments last night, and I think I am going to start with the "get more sleep" goal. I never get enough sleep. Not just because I've got two kids that wake me up way too early every morning, but mainly because I stay up till at least midnight every night, puttering around, reading, blogging, tumbling {ooh, tumbling is so addictive and it totally eats up my time!} and putting off going to bed. I know it's not good for me {6 hours isn't enough} but I keep doing it anyway. And as a result, I never feel well-rested, and I get grumpy/frazzled far too easily because I'm so tired. Well, not anymore! Starting tonight, I will attempt to be in bed by 10:30 on weeknights. It will mean being more organized and spending my time wisely, but that's got to be a good thing too, right? Right.

I'll check back in on Sunday and let you know how it's going. In the meantime, I hope you'll help me with this, and lend me your great ideas. Do you have some goals you're working on this year?

  1. Going to bed earlier would be an excellent idea for me as well. I stay up way too late too, and I have terrible insomnia on top of that! A goal a week is an excellent plan--totally more manageable than the big beginning of the year resolutions. Good luck with getting to bed early Erin!!

  2. yay for sleep! if falling asleep is an issue for you, might i recommend a sleep eye mask? dollarama has some cute ones. i find they block out all the light and i am able to fall asleep within minutes of putting it on.

  4. Getting more sleep is so important -- you'll need energy if you're going to accomplish all I know you will this year. Make changes to your routine. And enjoy reading The Happiness Project. I may reread it again myself...

  5. Big undertaking Mrs Pugh - a goal a week, you are brave lady! I really admire you for trying it.

    I have absolutely no idea how you cope with the sleep you do get, then again you know I like my sleep, so I think you will reap the rewards from this first goal.

    Looking forward to hearing what other goals you have planned.

  7. i love this! i think it's so much more practical. i'm doing something similar, only by the month instead of the week. and you'll have to let me know how you like the happiness project. i've thought about getting it a million times, but never actually have for some reason.

  8. I definitely don't get enough sleep! I use to pride myself in not needing that much sleep and still being fine the next day, but as I get older I can def tell a difference. Gone are the days when I could stay up late out with friends when I had to work the next day :) I am such a night owl though so it's hard for me to get in bed before midnight most nights. Good luck with your goal a week Erin! I can't wait to hear about them and your success, because I know you can do it love!
