As you may have noticed, I'm a busy girl. I've got a lot of stuff going on, and I need to keep track of it all! This fall I will be a part-time kindergarten teacher/preschool president/school librarian, and full-time mum to two busy boys. I also like to blog and read books and write long letters to friends far away. I think it's about time I had a space {a pretty and functional space} where I can keep myself, and all my many hats, organized. A home office to call my own. Here's what I'm thinking of:
Clean and bright and clutter free.
Shelves on which to keep stuff. Splashes of colour here and there.
Baskets and bins. Love 'em. I like that big bulletin board too.
A large work surface. And pillow to lean on.
Folders like these to keep me organized. A place to put school notices, homework projects, bills, letters incoming and to mail. I like that chalkboard too.
Did I mention I like white? And splashes of bright colour.
I like a desk below a window, with lots of natural light flooding in.
A wall clock would be good. And some lamps for softer light in the evenings.
I love the idea of turning a large table into a desk. And a full bookshelf nearby is always a good thing!
With all of this in mind, Alan and I are working on putting together an office for me this summer. When September rolls around, I will be ready to get down to work, and I won't get stressed because I can't find that piece of paper with that thing I wrote on it anywhere! We found a free desk on the side of the road (a big one, with drawers), and Alan's painted it white for me. Then we went to ReStore and got a door to turn into the desktop! We're going to put it along the window wall in the spare room. On the wall to the left, I will have shelves full of neatly organized baskets and bins. I'll be able to plug in my laptop, and leave my work out on the desk when I need to. No more piles of paper on the kitchen table. Yay! Am half-way to my dream office already...
Is there anything in your office/workspace that you just can't live without?
I absolutely love all these images and you know I love me some organisation! I can't wait to see your office space when it is all up and running either.
ReplyDeleteOur office is quite dark and gets quite warm so I am certainly envious of these cool, calm looking rooms. But my office space wouldn't be mine without my box of wrapping paper and my rolls of ribbons!
xx
oh these look fab, I just got my desk this year, it came from a second hand office place and i'm thrilled to have my own next to Mr D's at last. Only problem is I don't spend nearly enough time at it. sigh.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are one busy lady! I don't know how you manage to wear so many hats! And you wear them so well.
ReplyDeleteThat third office with the basket drawers looks like perfection! I would kill to have that space.
My current "office" is a corner desk in my room that has no drawers and is not very functional. I'm looking to replace it as soon as possible!
I can't wait to see what you come up with for yours!
oh that's awesome! you definitely need an office of your own, and i have no doubt you'll make it a beautiful, creative, inspiring space. i don't have a desk, so i created one with two stools and dannon's large drawing table top. it's awkward and only serves as a basic table {no drawers or anything}, but i'm glad i have something that i can type-type away on. i miss having my little desk that also served as my crafting table. someday... i love these desk photos. so many good ideas. i can't wait to see photos of your new office area!
ReplyDeletethose are all great! i need to ensure an office space is incorporated into our new apt [when we find a new apt] b/c i hate not having a permanent space to work and hubby's aesthetic is very different from mine! will be keeping this post in mind!
ReplyDeleteI WISH my office space looked like those. Man. I just see clutter. I hate it but I'm no good at cleaning it up.
ReplyDeleteIn my office I just need my computer and a place to put my snacks. Haha... can't live without the snacks!
Oooo a new office space! How exciting! I'm looking forward to seeing it progress as your add your personal touches and make it your own :)

Your dream space looks a lot like my dream space. Unfortunately, my handsome husband won't be building me one this summer like yours is. I can't wait to see the after pictures!
ReplyDeleteI love the pics of the bright organized offices! If you really like a door as a desk transformation you can always try the habitat for humanity reuse store. I once used one as a eating bar and it turned out quite nice! I have to say the one thing I can't live without in my work space is a magnetic bulletin board for artwork and news since the fridge is off limits! Good luck with your office space!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, can I help? Maybe we can find some good accessories at a cute store in Vancouver, yes? I don't know how you do it all, but I think a good office space is absolutely essential for you.
ReplyDeleteI love looking at office/creative spaces. There are so many ideas. I love natural light and lots of storage space. A comfy chair is also a must! x
ReplyDeleteLOVE! Setting up my little living room office nook was the best thing I ever did and it's way more cozy than a whole separate room would be. Also, I have no idea how you do it all, but I think you're my hero ;)
ReplyDeleteThese decorating ideas are so great that I know your home office will turn out to be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteAs for the way way too messy mess in my study at the moment... hmm. No comment. Let's just say it's very good news I have a friend coming to stay in the guestroom soon because it means I have to clean up!
