London Loves: The Thames {and its many bridges}

On my first trip to London in 1999, Wendy and I took a boat tour from Richmond to Hampton Court Palace. It was fabulous. {Note to self: Why have you not been back to Hampton Court Palace? You love that place!} This past summer, we took the kids on a river journey from Embankment Pier to the Tower of London and back to Westminster. We went with our good friends, Russ & Barbara and their kids.  You can get a cheap ticket if you've already got a London travel card. I think we paid 5 pounds each! Bargain.

Houses of Parliament

Cleopatra's Needle, an ancient Egyptian obelisk, erected in London in the 19th century

St Paul's Cathedral, way off in the distance

Millenium Bridge {did survive the Death Eaters, despite what you may have seen at the beginning of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince!}

Pugh boys on Tower Bridge

Isn't it beautiful?

London City Hall on the left. That's where Boris {the mayor} works. He cracks me up, that guy.

Me and D cuddled up to stay warm {it was a windy day on the Thames!}

Hay's Galleria. I love it. It's along the water, between London Bridge train station and Tower Bridge.

Definitely not falling down...

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on the south bank. I've seen Macbeth performed here, and Anthony and Cleopatra. Swoon.

I highly recommend seeing London by boat. The city grew up along the river, and there's so much history to see. And if you get a tour boat operator like we had, there are all sorts of interesting stories to hear as you go!

Next time on London Loves: Buckingham Palace. Ooh, pretty!

  1. Oh this post has made me very nostalgic. The only time I saw Thames was from the London Eye but all your photos are making me think a boat ride is definitely in order next time I am there!

  2. This makes me want to visit London so badly! My cousin is studying abroad there in June and I'm extremely jealous!

  4. Did anyone ever tell you that you look like Anna Friel? Because you really do! I saw your picture in a comment and I said to myself "that's uncanny!"

    Have a wonderful rest of the week!
