Tumblr Tuesday {cottagey}

I decided to base this week's Tumblr Tuesday post on a fabulous quote of Jane Austen's:

"I am excessively fond of a cottage; there is always so much comfort, so much elegance about them. And I protest, if I had any money to spare, I should buy a little land and build one myself within a short distance of London, where I might drive myself down at any time, and collect a few friends about me and be happy. I advise everybody who is going to build, to build a cottage."
~ Jane Austen

Oh, Jane! I couldn't agree more. Here are a few lovely cottages {okay, some are more like large houses, but they definitely have a cottagey feel about them} from my tumblr archives...

 A stone cottage, in a meadow, surrounded by wildflowers. Sigh...

Wouldn't the light be amazing in this one with all those windows?

I love this stone cottage with its green door and all those tulips. How lovely to see that each day when you step outside...

I love this one. It's tiny, but so pretty, and I'm really fond of flagstone paths like that...

Ooh, and finally, how about a cottage overlooking the ocean?  Now that would be fantastic!

Turns out my tumblr is full of cottages. They're my dream home, I think. When I'm not imagining my fab city flat, that is! Tell me a bit about your dream home?

  3. I especially love the second one with the pretty windows. I wouldn't mind a cottage for my getting away from the city house. It would be cosy and perfect for relaxing and reading.

    P.S. I received your lovely card in the mail a few days ago :)

  4. I really wouldn't mind a little cottage getaway right now to sort through my thoughts and get stuff done. Erin, you always inspire me to daydream, and some days, I really need that.

  7. that first one is just gorgeous! but I wouldn't mind living in any of them, especially by the beach! usually when I think of my dream home I think of city living in an amazing, lofty apartment with exposed beams or brick... but who can deny the appeal of a cottage?! Jane was spot on.

  8. Cottages are hoses for dreams, I'd so love to have one where I could wake up on dark winter mornings and hear the blackbirds and crows hunt for worms and in the spring to hear the woodpeckers and all the baby birds, and the summer nights with toads and crickets singing along. Oh to hear something more than traffic outside my windows and to see the 4 seasons bloom in their own particular ways like moving works of art.

  9. My favourite is the tiny one with the flagstone path. Sweet! Although my dream home is more along the lines of a lovely old apartment in Paris, with high ceilings, wood floors, a fireplace, a wrought-iron balcony & (but of course!) a view of the Eiffel Tower.

    Tell you what... you get the cottage, I'll deal with the Parisian apartment. Then we'll meet back here & get planning our next vacation, ok?

    XOXO!
