Resolution 2/52

I wish I could tell you that I've had great success this week in sticking to my journalling goal. But I can't. I am sorry to say that I haven't written in my journal once. I feel like a failure. I mean really, how hard is it to record three beautiful things in a notebook each night? But thanks to resolution #1, I've been feeling the need to get to bed well before 11, and I've been leaving the journal until it feels like it's too late. then I put it off and tell myself I'll get to it tomorrow. Sigh. Still, it's not all bad, right? The good news is that I'm still getting to bed earlier, more than two weeks into the new year. The bad news is that I blew it big time with goal #2. Thank goodness tomorrow is "always fresh, with no mistakes in it yet" {have you read Anne of Green Gables? You really should...}. I shall continue to try to get to bed at a reasonable hour, and I am determined to start writing in my journal this week. I know that once I get back into the habit, I'll be glad I persevered. 

Since I'm still working on goal #2, I'm going to keep this week's simple. I have a pile of pretty new notecards and writing paper, and several friends I've been meaning to write to. And so, between now and the weekend, I'll get those letters written, and on Saturday I'll take myself to the post office. I'll send a stack of mail off around the world, and then I'll buy myself a latte to celebrate {Starbucks is conveniently located next door to Canada Post!} Good plan? I think so.

Wish me luck this week {and if you've got any advice, I would love to hear it!}. I need to find some balance~ time for exercise and rest, reflection and communication, and time to get all the laundry done and meals made as well! 


  1. I read the first part of your post with a smile on my face as I haven't acheived one of my 2011 goals so far. 1. No wine between Monday and Friday (I am turning into a weeble as we speak) 2. Use my treadmill at least twice a week.
    But when I got to the end I could only think you have set yourself a very hard list of tasks there. I have been married 43 years now and have never managed to get the balance right....or reach the bottom of the ironing basket.

  2. You're doing a great job! At least you are going to bed earlier and I'm sure you will be able to journal more soon. Give yourself some time :)

  3. You really are already a superwoman in my eyes Erin and I will continue to tell you that. I am amazed that you get so much done as it is and are still the most incredible Mum too.
    Don't beat yourself up about it, move on and try again just like you said tomorrow is a new day.


    PS: Listen to me - all positive, where is that coming from! ;)

  4. Keep looking for that balance and you will find it! I understand your situation with the journalling -- it's easy to let slip. I've been keeping a short gratitude journal and I still have to make sure I set aside a few minutes every night to work on it.

  6. Horay for snail mail, very important to keep it alive, and there is nothing better than receiving a letter in the post! Very good resolution indeed.

  7. You, my dear, are anything but a failure! You're a busy woman who maintains an amazing blog almost every day! That's a form of journaling in itself. You amaze all of us with how well you do that! Take it easy on yourself :)

  8. I love sending and receiving international letters. Sounds like fun!

    That's fine. Goals are there to remind us of our aims and while it's nice to achieve them we're allowed a few falls along the way. My #1 goal on 101 is to take a picture a day. I forgot once last week and I've taken a few not-so-special shots simply to get them in. I think the fact that you're thinking about it (even if you don't necessarily write them down) means a lot too!

    Good job on your #1 goal by the way! I should follow suit!

  9. I struggle with journaling, too. I'm not sure what it is but I'm convinced it's some sort of mental block. I usually feel better when I do write in a journal, but I don't do it nearly often enough. It helps when I finish an old one and break out a new one :)

  10. Good luck! I'm sure that you'll do a swell job finding balance. That is something that I'm trying to accomplish as well (especially with writing and laundry).
