Run for the Cure 2010

Another year, another Run for the Cure! Alan and the boys came with me this year and it was such a good feeling to have someone there to cheer me on (this was quite motivating, in addition to my awesome Glee soundtrack...)

There were plenty of pink balloons, and everyone was dressed in shades of pink. It is such an amazing event, heartbreaking and uplifting and inspiring all at once.

Our friend Kristina was running this year. We couldn't believe we actually bumped into her in the crowd of thousands! (the boys adore Kristina, can you tell?)

And we're off! Alan and the boys caught me on camera as the crowd began to move across the start line.

Sawyer and I had matching pink tattoos. Cute, huh?

Dylan surprised me with the loveliest little sign. It says "Go Mum Run!" and beside it he's written 2010. There's a drawing of me with my running shoes, several pink hearts and below them it reads "Mum's Run for Em." I will keep it forever. I can't tell you how emotional I got when I approached the finish line and saw him standing there, waving at me and holding up his sign.

There I go! 5K in 38 min. Not too bad. But far more importantly, another $340 raised towards the cause. This year's Run for the Cure raised a record $33 million!!! And we're now a little bit closer to the foundation's vision of a future without breast cancer. I am so proud to have played a part in supporting that vision and taking another step towards making it a reality. It gets me all choked up again just thinking about it...

Thanks to all of you who supported me, some with cash, and all with the kindest words of encouragement. And to Em! I love you. You are the bravest girl I know. You have come so far in the past 17 months, and you should be so proud of yourself. I'm honoured to call you my friend.

  1. I am so proud of you Erin! Such a wonderful thing to do to support Em and to do your part in working towards a brighter future without breast cancer for all of us. I loved these photos! Dylan's sign is SO adorable! :) Your boys are so pecious! I look forward to next Saturday when I participate for the first time with Jess. Also my first 5K - so I'm a bit nervous for that! But above that I'm excited and proud to be part of something so important and for feeling that emotional, uplifting and inspiring way you felt this morning! Congratulations on the amount you raised and for running for Em :)

  2. Congratulations and thank you so much for doing this! I did the 3 Day walk last year and it was the most incredible, inspiring, empowering thing EVER. What a terrific feeling to be surrounded by so many powerful women. So glad you did this! And how cute are your babes?? Also, did you happen to see the NFL players sporting all kinds of pink (gloves, chin pads, socks/shoes/hats, etc.) today in support of breast cancer awareness? I LOVED IT, especially on my Saints! :)
