Guest Post: Cassie goes to Santorini!

A warm welcome to my dear friend Cassie, who I'll be meeting up with (for the first time ever! can you even believe it?) this coming Saturday! I'm so excited to get to spend some time with her in real life and tour around her part of the English countryside! Visit her beautiful blog for lots of lovely photos of life in Suffolk and the things that inspire her. And pop by again next week to see if she's posted any photos of our weekend of fun!

Hello Pughs’ News readers, it’s Cassie here from Hydrangeas and White Daisies

When Erin kindly asked me to write a guest post for her she knew exactly which place in the world I would choose as my favourite holiday spot! Sadly however, I have never actually visited the place I have chosen - the Greek Island of Santorini. I have been fortunate enough to travel to the Greek Islands of Kos, Crete, Nissyros, Kalymnos, Leros, Patmos and Thassos over the years but have never made it to the stunning island of Santorini .

If any of you are readers of my own
blog or follow me on Tumblr then you will already be aware that I adore the fabulous and beautiful vistas this island has to offer.

If I ever do get to visit, and I feel sure I will one day, then I may be tempted to stay at a hotel introduced to me by Rebecca over at The Ardent Sparrow. Earlier in the year she published an excellent travel series and one of the places she featured was a gorgeous hotel on the island of Santorini called
Canaves Oia Hotel. Like most properties on the island it is built into the cliffs overlooking the stunning Caldera, in the village of Oia .

Set amongst the most stunning scenery, the suites are all simply furnished in a traditional Greek style, many featuring beautiful outdoor spaces too.

As many of the buildings on the island are built into the steep cliffs there are many sets of dramatic steps, stairwells and walkways. The picture below may be familiar to you if you have ever seen the film The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, which features many scenes from around the island.

As well as lazing by the pool, wandering around looking for beautiful places and eating delicious Greek food, it would also be incredible to visit the unique Red Beach on the southern side of the island.

Of course, when the sun sets the islands fabulous scenery takes on a whole new exquisite outlook.

What do you think, does it looks like the perfect holiday spot to you too? I personally think that there is nowhere else in Europe where the houses are as pretty as those in Greece . I love the white washed buildings and the striking blue domed churches set against the blue of the Aegean Sea . However if you cannot visit straight away why not treat yourself to a live view via the webcam set on the Hotel Heliotopos which looks out across the dazzling waters of the Caldera.

Thank you once again to Erin for offering me this opportunity to indulge in my passion whilst she enjoys a fabulous holiday herself. I hope you enjoyed my favourite holiday spot and if you have been fortunate enough to visit the island I would love to hear all about it.
