Tuesday through the window

View from the window of the train, heading west to Somerset, August 12th

I'm joining in with "through the window" again this Tuesday, but today's picture wasn't taken today. It's exactly two months old! {what can I say? I'm tired and home from work, still sick with laryngitis, and it's just easier to find a picture that's already on the computer than to go take a new one} It's nice to look back at our holiday, too. During our stay in London this summer, we took an all-too-brief trip to Yeovil in the beautiful county of Somerset to visit family. We had an absolutely wonderful time! Everything about it was perfect.

The boys loved riding the train, and it was such a lovely journey. Lots to look at, and plenty of colouring to keep us busy, too. Alan's Uncle Tony was there to meet us at the station, and off we went into the pretty little town of Yeovil to stay at his and Eileen's house.

We got to see Great-Grandad again. He was so happy to see the kids {Sawyer for the first time, actually} and they were pleased to see him too.

We had a delicious roast lunch, all made by Auntie Eileen and Uncle Tony, and then plenty of cuddles afterwards.

We took a walk to the park where we played for ages.

Hung out in the garden and fed the fish in the pond. The boys loved this!

Cuddling with Auntie Eileen. The boys took to her right away.

See what I mean?

Lots of fun with Uncle Tony too!

That evening we had another huge family dinner, visited and got caught up {it had been 3 1/2 years since we were there last} while the kids played with their cousins. They built a huge fort out of blankets and cushions in the conservatory and hid in there for ages. It was so great. We stayed the night, had a lovely breakfast the next morning, a million cups of tea and so much fun before we had to head back to London that afternoon. Here's the email Eileen sent after we'd left. I love it, and really think it sums up what family time is all about:

Dear Erin & Alan,
Hope you've been having a good time in London and
have managed to fit in the London Eye.
Weather hasn't been the best it could have been for you.
Thank you so much for finding the time to come and visit
us. It was wonderful to spend the day with you all.
The children are beautiful, and we had a really fun time
with them. Tell Dylan and Sawyer that I really miss
seeing the fort and I might have to build my own!!
Thank you for the lovely card you left.
It was our pleasure to have you to stay, and I
hope it's not too long before we meet again.
Love to you all
Eileen x

Isn't that lovely? We love you, Eileen, Tony and all our Yeovil family! Thanks again for having us, and for being such wonderful hosts. We all had the nicest time we could've hoped for. And I hope it's not too long before we meet again, too. Come see us in Canada! We'd love to have you stay.

  6. Love that view from the train ride. There is just something so magical about traveling through the country via train. It makes me feel like I lived 100 years ago.
